Why can't I pick my bike up at the playa?
There is currently no way to pick your bike up on the playa - it's easy to swing by the shop and pick it up. We are located right off the freeway. There are three major grocery/food store within 2 miles of our location.
We firmly believe in the
10 Principles of Burning Man and #3 is Decommodification. In order for us to provide a bike pick up on the playa we would need to have employees on the playa and do a business transaction on the playa.
Let's do our business in town and then go to the Burn to participate! Thank you!

Who is Black Rock Bicycles?We are a small group who fell in love with the Burning Man event and also love bicycles. We saw a lot of folks show up with old bikes that broke so we would help fix them. Some fixer upper bikes let the owner down so hard that they got left behind. This became a bigger problem for the the
Burning Man event, as we all know that we should leave no trace . So Steve and Randy started renting bikes that we had fixed up as we grew we able to buy new bikes and rent them. We also made custom art bikes with the funky old bike that we keep up and running . We have found a lot of hurdles ( mostly from a local bike shop) that may have kept us from keeping this going, but as we all know when you get to the Playa the difficulties that you endure just seem to disappear with the wind. The goal of Black Rock Bicycles bike rental program is to not have any bad bikes left on the playa.

Why rent when I can buy?
This one of the most asked question we get. Yes you can buy a bike at Kmart or Wal Mart for close to the same price ... but then what? After the event do you drop it off, donate it or worse yet leave on it the playa? The big issue when donating a bike is that the quality of these bikes from these discounts stores is so low that you are actually discouraging kids from riding by giving them junk!

Sale or Rental bikes cancellation policy for The Burning Man Event.
Sale or Rental bikes cancelled 30 days or less before the official start date of the Burning Man event are subject to a cancellation charge of $25.00 per bike.
Sale or Rental bikes cancelled 15 days or less before the official start date of the Burning Man event are charged in the full amount.
Sale or Rental bikes & accessories cancelled after the official start date of the Burning Man event are charged in the full amount with no refund.
In the extremely unlikely event that due to weather or other factors that Burning Man is postponed or called off (this has never happened in the past) a credit will be given for for a bike rental or bike sale for the next calendar year Burning Man Event in lieu of refund.

Your credit card will only be charged for the replacement cost of a new bike of the type you rented:
Black Rock Cruiser $100, Reliant Cruiser $200, Fat Bike $300- $400.
